Metronidazole warnings.
If you experience seizures or numbness or tingling in your arms, legs, hands, or feet, remember that you should stop taking Metronidazole and call your doctor immediately.
Metronidazole tablets should be taken with plenty of water with or after food. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed.
The appearance of abnormal neurologic signs demands the prompt discontinuation of
Metronidazole therapy. Metronidazole should be administered with caution to patients with
central nervous system diseases.
If you have liver disease, make sure the doctor is aware of it. Metronidazole should be used with caution.
You should not drink alcohol while taking Metronidazole, and for at least 48 hours after finishing the course, as this can cause unpleasant symptoms such as hot flushes, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache and palpitations.
Active or undiagnosed yeast infections may appear or worsen when you take Metronidazole.
Convulsive seizures and peripheral neuropathy, the latter characterized mainly by numbness or paresthesia of an
extremity, have been reported in patients treated with metronidazole.
Metronidazole may cause various side effects that could impair your mental or physical ability to safely drive or operate machinary. You should be aware of how you react to Metronidazole before driving or operating machinary.
Metronidazole has been shown to be carcinogenic in mice and rats.
Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, it is important that you finish the prescribed course of Metronidazole medicine, even if you feel better or it seems the infection has cleared up. Stopping the course early increases the chance that the infection will come back and that the bacteria will grow resistant to the antibiotic.
Unnecessary use of the drug should be avoided. Its use should be reserved for the conditions described in the INDICATIONS AND USAGE section below.
If your treatment course exceeds 10 days it is recommended that you are monitored by your doctor, who may carry out tests to check for side effects and that the medicine is working properly.
Warnings:
